Terms & Conditions

Last updated: October 2026

These terms apply when Upright Roofing supplies roofing services to you, and when you use this website. Please read them before you accept a quote.

Key points

  • Surveys and written quotes are free, with no obligation.
  • Extra work is always agreed with you before we do it.
  • Consumers can cancel within 14 days in the cases set out in section 9.
  • Our workmanship is covered by the guarantee confirmed in your written quote.

1. About these terms

These terms apply when Upright Roofing (“we”, “us”, “our”) supplies roofing and related services to you (“you”, “the customer”), and when you use our website. If your written quote contains different or additional terms for a specific job, the quote applies to that job first.

Please read them carefully. By accepting a quote or asking us to start work, you agree to these terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your personal data.

2. Our services

We provide roof repairs, new roofs, flat roofing, chimney repairs, lead work, re-pointing and brickwork, guttering, and fascias and soffits across Preston and Lancashire, including emergency call-outs. The exact work we agree to do is the work described in your written quote.

3. Surveys and quotes

  • Our roof survey and written quote are free and without obligation.
  • Quotes are based on what we can see and access at the time of the survey. Some problems, such as rotten timbers or damaged felt, can only be found once work begins.
  • Unless the quote says otherwise, a quote is valid for 30 days. After that, prices may change.
  • A quote is an offer by us. It is not a binding contract until it is accepted as set out in the next section.

4. Forming the contract

A contract between you and us is formed when you accept our written quote (in writing, by email, text or message, or by signing it) and we confirm a start date. We may ask you to confirm acceptance in writing before we order materials or begin work.

5. Changes and unforeseen work

If we find extra work is needed that was not in the quote (for example hidden damage or defective timbers), we will tell you, explain the problem and give you a price before carrying on. We will not carry out extra work that adds to the price without your agreement, except where it is urgently needed to make the property safe, in which case we will explain it as soon as we can.

If you ask us to change the scope of the job, we will confirm any change to the price and timescale first.

6. Prices and payment

  • Prices are as shown in your written quote, and state whether VAT is included.
  • Payment terms (including any deposit for materials, stage payments and the balance due on completion) are set out in your quote. Where nothing is stated, payment is due on completion of the work.
  • We may ask for a deposit to cover the cost of materials for larger jobs.
  • If an invoice is not paid on time, we may recover the amount due, together with reasonable recovery costs and interest, as the law allows.
  • Materials supplied remain our property until you have paid in full.

7. Access, permissions and site

You agree to give us safe access to the property and roof at the agreed times, and to tell us about anything that could affect the work (for example hazards, asbestos you know about, neighbouring access, pets, or restricted parking).

You are responsible for any permissions needed for the work, such as landlord, freeholder or management company consent, listed building or conservation area approval, or party wall matters, unless we have agreed in writing to arrange them. Where scaffolding or access equipment is needed, this will be shown in the quote.

8. Timescales and weather

Start dates and how long a job takes are our best estimates. Roofing is weather-dependent, and for safety we may delay or pause work in rain, high wind, ice or other unsafe conditions. We will keep you informed and rearrange as soon as we reasonably can. Delays caused by weather, supplier problems or events outside our control are not a breach of contract.

9. Your right to cancel (consumers)

If you are a consumer and our contract was made away from our premises (for example at your home) or at a distance (for example by phone or online), you normally have the right to cancel within 14 days of the day the contract is made, without giving a reason, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

  • To cancel, tell us clearly by phone, email or in writing. You can use any wording, and a cancellation form is available from us on request.
  • If you ask us to start work within the 14-day period and then cancel, you must pay a proportionate amount for the work done up to the point you told us you were cancelling.
  • If you contact us and ask us to attend urgently to carry out emergency repairs, you cannot cancel the urgent work that was needed. You keep your right to cancel any additional work agreed beyond what was urgently needed.

If you cancel outside the 14-day period, or you are a business customer, you may be asked to pay for work already done, materials already ordered or supplied that cannot be returned, and our reasonable losses.

10. Quality of work and guarantee

We will carry out our services with reasonable care and skill, using suitable materials, as required by the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Our workmanship is covered by the workmanship guarantee confirmed in your written quote.

The guarantee does not cover damage caused by storms or extreme weather, third parties, lack of maintenance, structural movement, work by other contractors, ordinary wear and tear, or existing problems we told you about. This does not affect your statutory rights.

If you think there is a problem with our work, please contact us as soon as you can with photos if possible. We will arrange to inspect it and, where the problem is covered, put it right within a reasonable time.

11. Emergency call-outs

We offer 24/7 emergency call-outs for urgent problems such as storm damage and sudden leaks. Availability depends on our workload and on it being safe to work. Emergency work may be a temporary repair to make the property safe and weatherproof, and any call-out or temporary repair charge will be explained before work starts. A permanent repair may need a separate quote.

12. Waste, tidying and photographs

We will clear away waste from our work and leave your property tidy when we finish, unless the quote says otherwise. We may take photographs of the work before, during and after for our records and to show you what we found. We may use photos of completed work in our portfolio or on our website and social media, without showing your name or full address. Tell us if you would prefer us not to.

13. Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit, and it does not affect your statutory consumer rights.

Subject to that, we are not liable for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable, for loss of profit or business, or for problems caused by existing defects or by work not carried out by us. If you are a business customer, our total liability for any claim connected with a job is limited to the price you paid for that job.

Please ask us if you would like to see details of our insurance cover before work begins.

14. Complaints

If you are unhappy with any part of our service, please contact us straight away so we can try to put it right. We take complaints seriously and will respond as quickly as we reasonably can.

15. Using our website

The information on this website is general and is provided in good faith, but it is not a quote or a survey of your roof. Prices and availability are confirmed only in a written quote. The website content, text, design and images belong to us or are used with permission, and you may not copy or reuse them for commercial purposes without our written consent.

We do not guarantee the website will always be available or free of errors. We are not responsible for the content of other websites we link to.

16. Events outside our control

We are not responsible for any delay or failure to perform caused by events outside our reasonable control, including severe weather, supplier or material shortages, accidents, illness, strikes, or government restrictions. We will let you know and carry out the work as soon as it is reasonably possible.

17. General

  • These terms and your quote make up the whole agreement between you and us for the job.
  • If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
  • If we do not enforce a right straight away, we do not lose it.
  • We may update these terms from time to time. The terms in force when you accepted your quote apply to that job.
  • Only you and we have rights under the contract.

18. Governing law

These terms and any dispute connected with them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring a claim in your local courts.
